Tuesday, March 8 Hearing for Jefferson Park HPOZ

IMPORTANT JEFFERSON PARK HPOZ HEARING

WHAT: Informational Open House and Public Hearing about the Jefferson Park Historic Preservation Overlay Zone Plan (HPOZ)

WHO: Department of City Planning and the Jefferson Park community

WHEN: Tuesday, March 8 (also Election day, so plan accordingly)

WHERE: 6th Avenue Elementary School, 3109 6th Ave., just north of Jefferson Blvd. location changed to CAFETERIA

WHY: This is a very important meeting and the second milestone (the Workshop on Dec. 7 was the first milestone) to creating a historic district for Jefferson Park.

It is very important that residents attend to keep the process moving.

AGENDA:
6PM Informational Open House: Learn more about the plans for our historic district. We can ask questions, get clarifications, and provide feedback.

7PM Public Hearing:
This is our opportunity to talk in general terms about:
o        The cultural and historical importance of Jefferson Park,
o        How an HPOZ will increase community pride and preserve the character of our neighborhood, and its culture and history.
o        And provide specific comments on the Jefferson Park HPOZ Draft Preservation Plan as well as on the Jefferson Park Historic Resources Survey Report and its appendices. The Survey Report provides the historical and cultural justification for a historic district.
Comments will be restricted to a few minutes per person and will be recorded.

The Preservation Plan provides guidelines for preserving the character and history of our neighborhood in future years.   You can find both the Survey Report and the Preservation Plan by clicking on “Historic Preservation Updates” under “History” on this website.

There will be two additional hearings after the March 8 Public Hearing. The Cultural Heritage Commission and the City Planning Commission will each hold hearings at a later date on the Jefferson Park HPOZ and Preservation Plan.

Below is the “Notice of Open House and Public Hearing” that the Department of City Planning mailed to all residents in the proposed Jefferson Park historic district in the beginning of February.

If you have questions about the upcoming Hearing or the Jefferson Park HPOZ, you can call 323-606-8177 and a neighbor will call you back, or you can click on “Contact” on this website.
