Update about the May 20 S. LA Planning Commission Hearing and NEW DATE (JUNE 3, 2014) to hear the appeals of the LA City Planning Dept., approval that allows the oil company (FMOG) to expand its operations of the Murphy oil site (Adams and Gramercy next to St. Andrews Apts) into the enclosed "park" at 27th and St. Andrews south of the controlled drill site.
WHAT HAPPENED ON MAY 20?
The South LA Planning Commission held a very SHORT meeting (less than 5 minutes) on May 20 with three of five commissioners in attendance (3 is the minimum number of commissioners necessary to hold a legal meeting). It was announced that one of the three present commissioners (Malcolm Carson) is the Policy Director for the Environmental Health division of CHC (Community Health Council) and CHC submitted a letter supporting our appeals. As a result, Mr. Carson recused himself due to a conflict of interest. The Planning Commission was then left without a quorum and the hearing was suspended. Vermont Avenue (at 85th Street) Los Angeles 90044 TIME: 4:30pm The appeals can be read at the jefferson Park United website: http://jeffersonparkunited.org/category/site-topics/murphy-oil-siteMany of us received a mailer from FMOG trying to scare us.
