9/19/14: Community Responds to FMOG Application: Conditions & Mitigations

The UNNC developed a list of recommendations called Conditions & Mitigations regarding the Murphy Oil site at Gramercy and Adams in response to the recent application by FMOG to expand the operations to the park-like setting at 27th Street & St.

FMOG submits Request to put Burner into “Park” on 27th St.

Freeport McMoRan Oil & Gas (FMOG) submitted a request (Plan Approval) to LA City Planning to expand the natural gas operations (installation of a CEB 800 gas burner) into the landscaped hillside adjacent to 27th Street below the designated work area of the oil drill site on Adams and directly next to the St. Andrews Apartments in Jefferson Park.

NEXT STEPS: FMOG Drilling & Expansion Project at Murphy Oil Site


  • Stop the expansion of Freeport McMoRan Oil & Gas (FMOG) expansion of gas operations into the parkland (27th St. & St. Andrews) adjacent to the active production facility at the Murphy Drill Site (2126 W Adams Bvd), and
  • Require that all development projects at the Murphy Drill Site be subjected to proper reviews by the City’s Planning Department.

Today LA City Council President Herb Wesson announced during the June 3, 2014 meeting of the South Los Angeles Area Planning Commission that he had brokered an agreement regarding two appeals about the LA City Planning Dept., approval that allows the oil company, Freeport McMoRan Oil & Gas (FMOG), to expand its operations of the Murphy oil site (Adams and Gramercy) into the enclosed "park" at 27th and St. Andrews south of the controlled drill site.
